As a company, we’ve come a long way since Autumn 2019 when we first set out to make healthcare work better for everyone – from patients, to clinicians. Over the last nine months, HealthHero has been on a rapidly evolving journey, and one that we are very proud of. The pandemic accelerated our growth, acquisitions and offerings significantly – and with so many new people joining the team, we knew it was time as well to begin to articulate and codify the things we stand for. The first starting point was to refine our company purpose.
Next, we set to work on defining our values, which in turn flow from our purpose. Values are usually seen as an internal initiative, but as always, we love sharing as much as we can with our clients, customers and communities too. So here’s a closer look at them:
- Simplify – We look for ways to remove complexity and make life easier for our patients, clients and colleagues. Simplicity creates clarity, so we can focus on what is critical and adds value.
- Own – We take accountability, honour our commitments and get things done with a focus on outcomes. We’re proactive, removing barriers and proposing solutions for concerns that impact patients, clients and colleagues.
- Aspire – We aim high, and take pride in our work. After all, we’re here because we want to deliver the best in what we do, creating impact and blazing a trail in healthcare. Motivated by results and opportunities, we strive to create a great place to work and give our people room to grow.
- Respect – We value diverse talent, experiences and perspectives, creating supportive environments where people can be themselves. We show empathy to patients, clients and colleagues and empower our people to do the right thing.
The eagle-eyed will notice that the words themselves spell ‘SOAR’ – a word that spoke powerfully to our ambitions and drive as a company. Crucially, as our last value, Respect, makes clear, our ability to soar and transform healthcare relies on the relationships we build with each other, with our clients, with clinicians and with patients. It’s coined something of a spontaneous internal hashtag and a new shorthand for us to remind ourselves of this – #soartogether
Values only matter if they are truly lived by us as a community, and key to that is leadership from the top. Our new values are deeply supported by our Exec team, and there has been much excitement about how they help us operate more effectively and drive a positive change across our services.
As a fast-growth, tech-for-good company, we are beginning to establish a strong culture within our teams to enable us to collaborate better with each other, inspire one-another and empower our decision-making. Our Chief Technology Officer, Rich Haigh. explains:
“Values are super important: they shape and drive our behaviour, which embeds our culture. For tech, a strong culture is always important – it helps make sure we stay inquisitive, we challenge ourselves positively and we grow collaboratively as a team.”
HealthHero has ambitious plans to deliver the best digital healthcare experience available. Chief People Officer, Carmelita Lubos, explains how these values will have a knock-on effect to our clients and patients:
“When we live our values, it helps us stay focused on what matters and to be more effective in how we interact with each other with our clients and patients. If we think about Simplify, when we take complexity out of some processes, it challenges us to really think hard about how we deliver better service to our clients and patients in the easiest, most intuitive way. If we think about Respect, we are creating an environment where people feel empowered and trusted, empowering them to do their best work – in turn, having an impact on their colleagues, clients and patients.”
Although our journey is still an iterative and evolving one as a young company, we love sharing each milestone with our communities, regardless of how big or small. There are many amazing things on the horizon and we look forward to sharing more of our journey with you.
